The children have coped really well with full days at school as their are lots of new and different routines and expectations to learn. The weather hasn't been that kind to us this week so we've made the most of being outside when it wasn't raining too hard.

The children have been learning the letter sounds for the letters, 's, a, t, p, I, n, m and n' this week. We have found items that start with the sound and we have been listening really accurately to decide if a word starts with a specific sound. We have been recognising and writing our names, using name cards, and thinking about how to hold a pencil properly. We have listened, and joined in with, a range of stories and rhymes and we have been singing lots of songs.

We were introduced to 'Zero the Hero' this week and we have been trying hard to learn that zero means nothing, zero is none. Old MacDonald kept losing his animals so when he went back to the field there were zero animals left!

We have been gluing and sticking as well as making our fingers stronger by threading a variety of resources. We have been riding the bikes and the scooters and we have enjoyed our PE lessons with Mr Bates but...

the children have found it really hard to start getting themselves changed for PE. Some children had a really good try but others didn't know where to start. Taking your jumper off and putting your shoes and coat on are actions that everyone should be able to do or at least have a good try at. So please, please, please can you let your children be more independent with their dressing and undressing. Of course we won't leave them stuck or upset but most of our lesson is taken up with changing thirty children. Any progress will really help your child and ensure that they are able to succeed at school. Many thanks.

Home Learning

At the beginning of each new term the children will receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete and work on each week. The most important part of home learning is to talk with your child, read to, and with your child, every day and record this in their School Planners and allow them to think for themselves and develop their independence skills. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of simple words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
