Over the last 2 weeks we have been thinking about the number 7. We have been chanting to 7 forwards and backwards, learning how to write the numeral 7 the right way round and thinking about the different ways we can represent 7. In class we have been using lots of resources (numicon, cubes, number lines, counters etc.) to find one more and one less up to 7. We have then learnt how to record this using pictures and a part, part whole model. Some of the children are progressing well and have moved onto recording their work using the symbols + - and =. Well done!

In PE this week we have been learning how to throw and catch a large ball. The children have also been climbing up a frame and jumping off safely, bending their knees and holding their arms out to balance. Lots of videos have been taken and uploaded onto ILD so please take a look… The children would love to show you all of their fantastic learning they have been doing.

Once again, can we politely remind you to record ALL reading done at home in the children’s link diaries. When we read with the children at home, it would be lovely to talk to them about the books they have been reading at home and just 5-10 minutes each day makes such a big difference!

This week in RE we have been thinking about our families and the people who are special to us.

Our buzz question this week is “What are you learning?”. We ask the children throughout the day to explain their learning to a teacher and if they can explain it clearly, they get 2 dojos. We are getting much better at this in school. I wonder if the children can come home and tell you what they have been learning at school?

Home Learning

At the beginning of each new term the children will receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete and work on each week. The most important part of home learning is to talk with your child, read to, and with your child, every day and record this in their School Planners and allow them to think for themselves and develop their independence skills. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of simple words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
