This week in maths we have begu

n to look at fractions. We have discussed and made attempts to define what a fraction is and what the numerator (top number) and the denominator (bottom number) means. We have focused on fractions of objects and touched on which fractions look equivalent to others (same value). To consolidate our learning in recognising parts of a whole we played a puzzle game of 'loop cards'. We found this challenging but fun.

Kellen "I know that the denominator is how many equal parts make a whole".

We have also been doing statistics and creating and exploring bar charts, tally charts and pictograms.

We are looking at rocks in science this term and we went outside and found a pebble then used a magnifying glass to do detailed observations. Mahdi "We looked at different types of rocks and described what they looked like".
Navya "My pebble felt really soft and we tried to match other similar rocks".

In literacy with Mrs Spencer we are looking at explanation texts following a class text ' The Pebble in my Pocket'. This week we labelled explanation texts with features we found.

Also in literacy, With Mrs Townend, we are learning how to write effective adventure stories following our class text ' The Hodgeheg' by Dick - King Smith. This week we have explored lots of setting descriptions and the features we need (senses, atmosphere, time of day...) and will next look at character descriptions.

In Geography we are learning about the UK. We have located and labelled cities and countries on a map and this week we found famous rivers found in the UK and some of us were able to discover which sea they flowed into.
