This week in Poseidon we have been looking closely at Autumn and conkers, linking our writing to it by focusing on types of adjectives and conjunctions we could use in a sentence.

RE - Diwali. We made lights/rangoli/Mehndi. We really enjoyed using colour and decorations to make these look fantastic!

Science - We had a letter from a museum asking us to investigate a bone mystery!!

In maths we have progressed well onto expanded column subtraction and some of us are on compact method.

On Wednesday the school held our first ever polling station for those who 'stood' for student council. Votes are in and will be announced on Friday 17th October, during celebration assembly. From all of the teachers we would like to congratulate all of the candidates, their presentations were brilliant and they have done themselves proud. Some have an exciting wishlist for improving the school.....a swimming and a zip wire?!

In Science/History - remember when we mummified tomatoes? Well Thursday afternoon we unpicked and unravelled the embalming Natron and discussed our findings. Following this we took the opportunity to paint these using water colours to demonstrate good texture and change in the 'mummy'.

Last day - RED is the theme. We are going to be undertaking an investigation in maths and painting our amulets that we made last Friday!

Thank you

Year 3 are given weekly homework that is set on a Wednesday and handed back in for marking on a Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn which are tested on a Thursday. Throughout the year the type of work that they will be set will varying with each half term having a slightly different focus. MyMaths will be used at different points throughout the year as the set homework but is available all year round for extra practice. Please continue to practise your times tables as we are now using the Times Table Marathon to track which times tables the children know, ask your child about this. We are enjoying the challenge and it is helping us to make progress with our multiplication knowledge..
