We started the week making papier mache globes, "we made papier mache raised maps using tissue paper and it was fun." Maisie.

"We also made a postcard - we were in Egypt sending it home." George.

We also painted landscapes using water colours and silhouettes.

On Wednesday, we began the day deepening our maths brains by trying fin out how many squares were in the puzzle - there were 40 in total! In maths we measured lines and a house using rulers and began to look at the concept of conversion.

In literacy we began our topic on myths and researched main facts about gods and goddesses of Egypt to create our own Top Trump cards. We all had the opportunity to create our own god/goddess including adding its powers, skill, importance and purpose. Some of us had god of the world, god of pizza and goddess of nature. Some lovely concepts.... :)

Thursday we had to retell a myth for our cold task following watching a short video clip of it.

In maths we investigated, 'Are our feet the same size?' Oliver P: "Some people's feet weren't the same size.

In geography, we made our own map of Egypt adding on features: stepped pyramids, river Nile, Sphinx, cities and towns.

In ICT we began to explore what an algorithm was and created algorithms for our partner to follow blindfolded in the hall. We had some super trust exercises here.

Year 3 are given weekly homework that is set on a Wednesday and handed back in for marking on a Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn which are tested on a Thursday. Throughout the year the type of work that they will be set will varying with each half term having a slightly different focus. MyMaths will be used at different points throughout the year as the set homework but is available all year round for extra practice. Please continue to practise your times tables as we are now using the Times Table Marathon to track which times tables the children know, ask your child about this. We are enjoying the challenge and it is helping us to make progress with our multiplication knowledge..
