As a hook into our inquiry term which is based around topics about France, as a class we looked at the Women's World Cup, which is taking place there this month. We each had two football shaped images which we decorated one blue and the other red. Some of us used tissue paper and glue, some bubble paint, water colour pencils, sponge technique and finger painting. When they all finished and the footballs had dried we put them all together to create a collage of the French flag. This will be our flying flag on sports afternoon next week (dependent on the weather).

On Monday we also looked at the geography of France using atlases and discussed things that we knew and wanted to know more about the country. These will hopefully support them with creating an inquiry question for their inquiry project this term. We will begin collating questions and researching these next week.

On Tuesday with Mrs Spencer we looked at our class text this term, The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan. This is a picture book for of inquiry, open - ended questioning. The children looked at an image taken from the book and began to draw questions from this using their inference and thinking skills. In maths we began to look at calculating perimeters and will continue this as well as measurement with Mrs Spencer.

Also this term we are recapping our learning of column method and started with column addition on Wednesday. Next week we will look at word problems and move on to column subtraction. In literacy we completed a grammar lesson on the homophones: there, their and they're.

Thursday was our school trip and both children and staff who attended had a fantastic time. The staff have non stop praised every single child in Poseidon for being hard working, showing team effort and resilience throughout the day! Well done to all of you - we have some fab photos.

Friday we wrote a recount of our West Lodge experience using a mind/story map. The children drew pictures for each event of the day in order as well as adding detail to these pictures with WOW words describing their experience: see, hear, smell, taste and feel. These have been put in their profiles for the end of the year.

In the afternoon we went back to our class text The Lost Thing and began to think about where we would like to be 'lost' and think about the setting and things around us and then, using water colour paint, we painted our setting of our chosen place (imaginary or real) to be lost in. Some happy, vibrant settings have been created :)

We also practised our Sports day warm up - Zumba!

The children are also given weekly spellings to learn which are tested on a Thursday. Throughout the year the type of work that they will be set will varying with each half term having a slightly different focus.
