What a great start to the new school year! All of the children have settled into year 3 amazingly and have really thrown themselves into their learning so far. We started year 3 with three WOW days, covering all things Roman.

The children particularly enjoyed designing and painting their own Roman shield as well as working in groups to produce a menu based on what the Romans ate. We learnt that the Romans ate very plain food and we all agreed that we would not have enjoyed it very much.

The whole class were involved in a Roman Numeral hunt around the class room before using the numerals to link them to letters and work out a mystery sentence. Whilst it was a challenge, all of the children had a go and are now become more used to writing numbers and the date in Roman Numerals.

In literacy this week, we have been describing our Roman characters, which we have also turned into top trump cards to be used in class. Everyone has written a great story involving their character as the first piece of writing in year 3 and there will certainly be lots more opportunities for them to demonstrate their writing skills as the year progresses.

For this half term in science, we are learning all about forces. We have spent one lesson so far looking at push and pull and the class had the chance to try everyday actions and work out if they were a push or a pull.

All of the children are excited for the trip to Bosworth Heritage Centre to learn more about the Romans!

How you can help!

Practising spellings with your child for a short time regularly is the best way to help them learn. Reading at home with your children regularly is also a great help to their learning. Children have an independent reading book that they take home with them and this can be changed within the classroom once they have finished reading it. Each child then works within a group to read a more difficult book, guided by an adult. This is a guided session so we talk through the book in lots of detail.
