Throughout this past week we have been looking at volcanoes and in particular the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79ad, during Roman times. We have written lots of great sentences describing the setting of Pompeii both before and after the eruption. Fantastic work!

We have also painted a volcano in a group ready to make them erupt next week, which has provided a lot of excitement.

Last week, also saw us learn some sign language. Almost all children can now sign 'Hello my name is...what is your name?'. It was great to see the enthusiasm and determination from the children to try and learn a new language.

Our maths focus has shifted to multiplication and division. We have started by looking at multiplying and dividing by 3 which has seen huge improvements in our three times table.

During Friday's celebration assembly we won the PE cup awarded by the sports coaches to the class that has impressed them the most during the week. Everyone has been working really hard in gymnastics and the rewards have been seen.

We are approaching a very busy time of year but certainly a fun time too!

How you can help!

Practising spellings with your child for a short time regularly is the best way to help them learn. Reading at home with your children regularly is also a great help to their learning. Children have an independent reading book that they take home with them and this can be changed within the classroom once they have finished reading it. Each child then works within a group to read a more difficult book, guided by an adult. This is a guided session so we talk through the book in lots of detail.
