We have had a brilliant week in Poseidon which has included World Book Day, an Art Workshop and a focus on poetry!

The whole class really enjoyed going to hear a book read by a secret reader at the start of World Book Day and it really set a great tone for the rest of the day. In Year 3, our class book was the great Kapok Tree, which is set in the rainforest and features lots of different rainforest animals giving their reason not to cut the tree down. As a whole class we turned this book into a picture book that would be appropriate for a younger age group. Each small group was given some of the pages to focus on before drawing, painting and colouring their image. It was amazing to see the children get creative whilst also engaging with a book.

In English we have been looking at poetry and have even written our own poems about a rainforest animal. We are continuing to look at poetry this week and everyone will have a go at performing part of a poem in a group.

We have had a very successful week in maths this week. Having sometimes found money a little difficult, we have moved on to looking at statistics. All of the children have had a great understanding and confidence amongst everyone has really been boosted.

On Monday we had an Art Workshop in which all of the children got to produce their own silk printing. It was great to learn from a professional artist and learn some new techniques.

Next week we will begin to look at deforestation in the rainforest including persuasive writing for English. We are moving onto fractions in maths, which we will continue with for the rest of this term.

The children are continuing to work hard and it’s great to see.

How you can help!

Practising spellings with your child for a short time regularly is the best way to help them learn. Reading at home with your children regularly is also a great help to their learning. Children have an independent reading book that they take home with them and this can be changed within the classroom once they have finished reading it. Each child then works within a group to read a more difficult book, guided by an adult. This is a guided session so we talk through the book in lots of detail.
