Welcome to Poseidon

poseidonOur names are Mrs Spencer and Mrs Townend and we teach the Year 3 class at Hall Meadow. Poseidon class is also very lucky to have other adults that teach us and support our learning. Mr Palmer teaches PE on a Wednesday afternoon. Poseidon are in the first year of Key stage 2 and across the year will continue to develop their independence and their approach to learning.

Summer Term 2 - Inquiry

The final term this year is, as always. INQUIRY! This is when the children can investigate topics that they are interested in and learn how to carry out research and develop questions based on France. There will be many opportunities for the children to broaden their ideas into lots of different curriculum areas. We aim to develop skills such as self direction, responsibility, organisation, questioning, explaining, adaptability ... the list goes on and on!

The inquiry topic gives the children chances to be creative and to present their work to an audience. We develop different ways to share our ideas including ICT, music and art.

Learning Updates

At the start of the week we had a whole - school summer show rehearsal in the hall followed by a dress rehearsal at the Lighthouse theatre on Wednesday afternoon. Everyone is working really hard with their singing and dancing - well done!

On Monday afternoon we calculated the length of shadows using the projector light and a pencil in Science followed by an end of term assessment on the Tuesday.

On Tuesday in maths we calculated mass adding and subtracting grams and kilograms - excellent problem - solving skills.

In literacy we gathered ideas for our own Lost Thing.

On Wednesday morning in literacy we rewrote an advert from last week's talk for writing. Then on Thursday we each selected a product from the Argos book to begin our plan for our own adverts for our persuasive pieces. Tomorrow we will be drafting our adverts using a checklist of features.

In maths we have been focusing on multiplication beginning with the grid method progressing well onto short multiplication - using formal written methods - lots of us need to practise our times tables :)

In RE this week we wrote our own Psalm or poem that expressed a message about what we were thankful for - some lovely messages like: family and life.

Thank you
Poseidon class

At the start of the week Mrs Evans helped the children create puppets using card and other materials. Their creations were inspired by their own 'Lost Thing' creature. When we finished our puppets we put on a play using these as our characters. We had lots of fun using our imaginations and creativity.

In Maths we did some practical tasks using measuring cylinders and jugs to practise reading ml and l. Some of us reached the mastery / reasoning tasks - well done!

On Wednesday, we had a whole - school show rehearsal - thank you to Poseidon for supporting our current year 6's brilliantly with your beautiful sitting and singing!

In literacy on Thursday, we edited and redrafted our persuasive adverts following our checklist of what must be included - these are coming along very nicely.

This week we are finalising our class inquiry projects and getting them ready for presentations next week but, throughout this week we have been impressed by everyone by how much effort and enthusiasm you have displayed in your homework inquiry's they are all fantastic and it is nice for you to share a piece of what you enjoy / like to talk about. Thank you for your hard work!

This week in maths we will begin looking at the bus stop method of division and playing some consolidation maths games: matholopoly where we need to use our quick mental maths skills to solve problems in order to move on in the game.

Thank you Poseidon for this year - you should be so proud of your individual and class achievements, well done! GOOD LUCK in year 4! Mrs Townend
