This week’s blog is written by: Mia & Beyza.

Our first full week in Zeus has been very busy as we have been doing a lot of planning in English and hard problem solving in maths using negative numbers.

Planning our writing

We have been doing a lot of planning in English as we have been talking about work houses. We have been planning our description of work houses and we will be writing paragraphs using figurative language in our writing.

Izzy and Olivia: “We enjoyed the fact that we had a lot of time to plan”.

Eleanor: “I liked looking at all of the figurative language techniques”.

Niamh: “I found the planning in English interesting.”

This week Zeus have been problem solving in maths. They have also been ordering temperatures and have been working with negative numbers.

Evie: “I have enjoyed learning how to add and subtract negative numbers.”

Jasmin: “I liked working in partners to solve hard problems.”

Marah:” I enjoyed rounding decimals.”

On Monday and Wednesday Zeus class looked at circuits in science. We did a revision test and a practical session, making our own circuits. We had different challenges set by Ms. Pallett.

Gracie C: “I enjoyed making circuits!”

Milan: “I liked finding out about how motors work.”

Niamh: “I liked making the different circuits.”

Mia & Beyza: “Our favorite activities were:

  • Playing math games,
  • Planning for English,
  • Creating circuits.”

How you can help!

Home Learning

Year 6 are given weekly homework that is set on a Friday and handed back in for marking on a Thursday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn which are tested on a Friday. Homework is an important part of a child’s transition to secondary school, as when they are there they will be expected to balance and meet deadlines, so please encourage your child to complete their homework on time. Your child may also want to complete extra revision of topics they have struggled with at school.
