In English this week we have been writing up our persuasive piece on whether xenotransplantation should be used to solve the shortage of donor organs. Xenotransplantation is using animal organs instead of human organs. We are reading a book about a boy called Cameron who is getting a pig heart after picking up a heart virus. This is the only way it can be solved. The book is called Pig Heart Boy.

“I have enjoyed writing a persuasive piece about xenotransplantation.”

In Maths this week we have been looking at area and perimeter. Some of us have been doing word problems based on area and perimeter. We have also been finding out how to find the area of triangles. Area is the space inside of the shape and perimeter is the outside of the shape. To find the perimeter you add all the sides together, to find the area you times the length by the width. To find the area of a triangle you times length by width divide by 2.

“I have enjoyed maths because it was hard but it was fun at the same time.”

In Art this week we have been painting a picture with a Hindu God (he was blue) playing the flute. Our aim was to use different shades of the same colour for contrast and effect.

In PE we have been working on create our own gymnastic routines. We have particularly focused on symmetry and asymmetry and working with our partners / small groups on the overall effect of our routine.

How you can help!

Home Learning

Year 6 are given weekly homework that is set on a Friday and handed back in for marking on a Thursday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn which are tested on a Friday. Homework is an important part of a child’s transition to secondary school, as when they are there they will be expected to balance and meet deadlines, so please encourage your child to complete their homework on time. Your child may also want to complete extra revision of topics they have struggled with at school.
