As part of our Healthy Child initiative, we encourage our children to live healthy active lives.  Healthy eating forms part of our programme.  In support of this, we provide the children with opportunity to have a hot school meal.  The Government now provide a Universal offer of school meals for every child in Early Years and Key Sage One.   This means that parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 do not have to pay for school lunches.   Because the meals are nutritionally balanced, we want all of our pupils to have a hot meal at school, particularly our youngest children who are in Iris, Demeter and Apollo class.{gallery}food-pictures{/gallery}Meal times provide an ideal opportunity for the children develop their social skills.  They have time to chat to their friends and learn the conventions of eating out – a real life skill that will form part of their social lives in the real world.  We believe that it is an important life skill to learn positive table manners and to use cutlery appropriately.  As vegetable are cooked freshly on the site, school meals also help children to develop the habit of eating fresh fruit and vegetables daily as part of every meal.  Much healthier than a packet of salt laden crisps and a sugar loaded chocolate covered bar!
